Does my child still need to do testing in 3, 5, and 8?

507 views 2 April 9, 2025

Yes, all students must test in grades 3, 5 and 8.  The law does not provide waivers for any PA Homeschoolers.

Things to note

  • When you file your child’s affidavit, you do so with their age, not grade. You as the supervisor decide what grade your child is in and when.
  • The law does not specify what grade level the child must be tested at. As the supervisor, you can test at the grade level most accurately reflecting your child’s current functioning level. Testing is only required for reading and math.
  • Accommodations- individual test publishers set accommodations for their tests such as extended time, spoken answers, or reading assistance. Contact test companies for this information.
  • For information for Highschoolers needing accommodations for tests such as SAT, ACT, CLT, PSAT, and AP, visit – https://hslda.org/post/5-essential-steps-to-obtaining-accommodations-for-tests
